THE BEND

History

Chattahoochee Bend State Park occupies 2,900 acres of varied natural land in western Coweta County, with five miles of frontage along the Chattahoochee River.  Georgia's second-newest passive recreation facility was developed with support from Coweta County with $7 million in bonds approved by the state in 2006.  Phase 1 construction began in autumn of 2009 and was completed in early summer of 2011. Opening on July 1, 2011, it is Georgia's seventh largest state park.

Enjoy the views from an observation tower, canoe, kayak, and fish.   Accommodations range from camping in a traditional tent, RV site, riverside platform camping, "Adirondack" three-sided shelters, or in one of the cabins.
So far the 'Bend Friends' have built over 13 miles of hiking trails and 5.4 miles of biking trails:

  • 5.5 mile Riverside-Bend Trail from the Day Use Area to "the bend"
  • 3.6 mile Wild Turkey Trail and Tower Trail from Trail Head 1 past the Visitors Center to the Observation Tower
  • 3/4 mile Brown Thrasher Trail, which forms a loop with the Wild Turkey Trail at Trail Head 1
  • 3/4 mile Campground Loop, which connects the campgrounds to the Day Use Area and Riverside Trail
  • 1 mile Flat Rock Trail, which loops through unique environments
  • 1.1 mile Bobcat Trail
  • 5.4 mile easy to moderate mountain bike trails

Additionally, more trail is ready to be built:

  • 12+ miles of mountain bike trail
  • 11+ miles of equestrian trail
