Chattahoochee Bend State Park is a crucial facility along the Chattahoochee River. Before the park's two access points were built, it was a 25-mile one-way trip from Hwy 16 to Franklin. The Bend will be a premier stop on the Chattahoochee Blueway Trail, a project that is in the works. The Coweta County boat launch at Hwy 16 / US 29 near Whitesburg is the "top" of our section of river. West Point Lake is the "bottom".
The Chattahoochee Riverway Project BacteriAlert Program has monitoring stations at Medlock Bridge and a little closer to us at Paces Ferry (which is 50 miles upriver).
Get "live" data from monitoring stations upriver and downriver from The Bend. Note: Franklin and Fairburn offer more data than Whitesburg, especially temperature. Apps such as River Flow can also give you updated data prior to your trip. Click here for Whitesburg data
The Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area recommends a maximum flow rate below 4,000 cfs for unguided canoes, kayaks, rowing, or stand up paddleboards.
Estimated float time from Hwy 16 to the North Platform Camp is 3 hours based on 3,000 cfs. The North Platform Camp has picnic tables and access to restrooms. There is no public road access to this launch site. It is a boat in camp site/stop over. Estimated time to CBSP launch is 1+ hours.
